Using the Wii Guitar Hero III with a PC¶

Introduction¶

Why did I want to do this? Well, having played the game on the Wii I wanted to meet what the game was like on the PC as the graphics are better, you get stereo sound and information technology's possible to add together custom songs to the game unlike the Wii version. Yet, I didn't want to accept to pay for a whole new guitar!

Requirements¶

Here's what you volition demand to become things up and running:

  • A copy of Guitar Hero III for the PC
  • GlovePIE
  • gh3.PIE
  • A Bluetooth adapter for your PC or laptop (your computer may accept Bluetooth built-in)
  • A Nintendo Wii Guitar Hero III Les Paul guitar controller
  • A Nintendo Wii remote

Bluetooth Fix-Up¶

  1. Make sure your Bluetooth adapter is enabled and working - you lot may accept a Bluetooth icon in your system tray.
  2. Open Control Panel and click Devices and Printers

  1. Press buttons 1 and two on your Wii remote to put it into pairing fashion - all the LEDs should flash and your PC should discover the controller equally shown beneath. Click the Wii remote and click Next when prompted for a PIN - information technology's not needed. Note: yous may accept to repeat this stride a few times every bit the Wii remote does non stay in pairing mode for long.

GlovePie¶

GlovePIE is a very powerful awarding that allows you to customise how a controller interacts with your PC. A controller tin can take many forms, including game control pads, joysticks and the Wii remote! The application requires no installation.

You volition also need to download gh3.PIE which is a PIE script for GlovePIE that defines how the Wii Guitar Hero guitar volition interact with your PC.

Once you have downloadeded GlovePIE , extract the Zip annal to a binder on your PC. Then browse to the binder and open GlovePIE.exe.

Now choose File -> Open and scan to the location where y'all saved gh3.PIE and open it.

In the gh3 tab (meet below) you will the code for the script. Y'all tin can modify information technology if you wish to alter which keys are bound to the Wii Guitar Hero guitar buttons, when the remote should vibrate, which LEDs light up etc.

From the menu bar click Troubleshooter -> Bluetooth Fix otherwise the next stride will non work.

Next click Run and the script will be executed. If successful, the first LED on the Wii remote should exist lit up. If no LEDs are lit upwards, repeat the Bluetooth steps in a higher place.

You're now ready to fire-up Guitar Hero III!

Setting-Upwards Guitar Hero Three¶

Once the game has loaded y'all need to become to the options section and enable player one lefty flip, otherwise the frets will appear in the incorrect social club when you lot go to play a song.

At present get to the controller prepare-up to configure the up and down strumming keys and the star power. Use the up and downwards pointer keys on your keyboard to select a fret and press the enter central. Then press the corresponding fret on your guitar. Repeat for strumming up and down. For star power, navigate to the star power entry, striking the enter central then milk shake the Wii guitar. This should set the entry to space.

Playing the game¶

The video below shows myself using my Wii Guitar Hero III Guitar with the PC version under Windows XP (note: this guide has been updated for Windows ten). In the video yous will encounter the whammy and star power features in action.

Setting-Up Guitar Hero Earth Tour¶

For Guitar Hero World Tour, you will first need to salvage AspyrConfig.xml (right click, salvage every bit) to your Guitar Hero Earth Tour settings binder. This can be institute at C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\AspyrGuitar Hero World Tour (replace YOUR_USER_NAME with your Windows login proper name). This file will update your keyboard mappings for the controls of the game.

Now load the GlovePIE script equally described above and so load the game.
